The phrase "LGBTQ+" is simply just a stretch for people who are losing a debate to use in an attempt to escape looking like they're wrong by generalizing a large group of people who mostly aren't even related to the debate at hand. The debate is whether SpongeBob is or is not part of the LGBTQ community, which he is so obviously and so clearly not, and the fact that you're still trying to argue that he is, shows that you don't really care about the valid counter evidence that has been brought to the table, because you're just so desperate enough to try to get woke representation out of literally anything. There's a reason I hadn't mentioned "LGBTQ+" in any of my previous replies, it's because that's not what this debate is about and it never has been. Reactions on social media about the news were mixed with many claiming they’ve known for years that Spongebob might be gay or bi. LGBTQ is a community of people who are gay/lesbian/bi, and because he's a male, to be in the LGBTQ community, SpongeBob would be required to at least be gay or bisexual. What Nickelodeon did, and perhaps in a clever way, is not address Spongebob’s sexuality or even mention if he is part of the LGBTQ community in the tweet. Any person who likes someone of their own gender not in an aromantic way is gay. Like I said before, being technical to validate a point just weakens your arguement.

When I say gay, it's basically a generalization of the concept of being attracted to your own gender. When I say gay, I don't mean boy likes boy. But being a lesbian is basically the female equivalent to being gay. And as you've said multiple times in this debate, what Stephen Hillenburg says is canon, and no one can say otherwise. His answer has always been that SpongeBob ISN'T gay. Recently, I asked Vincent Waller on Twitter if SpongeBob is really gay/in the LGBTQ community, and he basically said that he believes Stephen Hillenburg answered that question many years ago.

However, SpongeBob is definitely not gay or in the LGBTQ community. SpongeBob being asexual doesn't mean he could never identify as gay, or part of the LGBTQ community, and it could be canon. People who are aromantic are both: asexual and unable to feel any sort of attraction towards people. Not all asexual people are unable to feel attraction towards someone, they just don't want to reproduce. But someone who is gay, can also be asexual. I'm not being disrespectful, but there's no need for you to get technical in order to attempt to validate your argument. Krabs.Bruh, LGBTQ is basically another word for being gay. In it, dim-witted Patrick disguises himself as a woman, Patricia, and attracts the affections of both co-worker Squidward Tentacles and boss Mr. The 2006 episode "That's No Lady" probably did little to stop those nagging questions about SpongeBob and Patrick's sexuality. SpongeBob's sexuality has been a topic of discussion for many years now and certain episodes have probably contributed to the speculation. "Spongebob gay? i thought yall knew this already," tweeted user by the name of John wrote: "Everyone shocked that nick tweeted out spongebob gay, when this literally was in an episode." We're just trying to be funny and this has got nothing to do with the show," people brought out the fact that SpongeBob's sexual orientation has already been a topic of discussion over the past decade. "For the record since "SPONGEBOB IS GAY" is trending off that Nickelodeon Tweet, this is a quote from Hillenberg himself: "We never intended them to be gay. "I don’t care if spongebob is asexual, bisexual or gay, I stan him," tweeted pointed out that the late Stephen Hillenberg, who created the series, never intended SpongeBob to be gay. I’m sure they didn’t expect the rumors, conspiracies and theorizing to follow shortly after. In honor of Gay Pride Month, the kids and tweens channel highlighted some of its LGBT+ characters and human content producers.

Nickelodeon turned off comments and replies to their tweet, but it didn't prevent Twitter from coming to conclusions. A simple, supportive and inclusive tweet on the official Nickelodeon network profiles has caused quite the stir. Cohen from "Henry Danger."Ĭohen shared that he transitioned from female to male about 20 years ago and Korra identifies as bisexual, leaving social media to speculate that SpongeBob is part of the LGBTQ+ community as well. "Celebrating #Pride with the LGBTQ+ community and their allies this month and every month," the network tweeted Saturday along with photos of SpongeBob, Avatar Korra from "The Legend of Korra" and Michael D.
